This report outlines the functionality and integration requirements of a digital application designed to optimise the operation of smart collection boxes within the reverse logistics chain. These requirements should be taken into account when establishing the IT protocols to connect the digital application with ERP systems managed by the Producer Responsibility Organisations or the waste management organisations assuming the management of the e-Wastes collected.To make the smart collection boxes work, we built a distributed system architecture, referred to as the Dashboard in this document, that includes both a back-end system and a front-end interface. The back-end manages data collection, item recognition, machine monitoring, and data storage, while the front-end provides users access to this real-time data.

Without the software component, the smart collection boxes would not function as intended, as all data processing, decision-making, and user interaction rely on the system’s architecture.

Key focus areas of this report include Dashboard’s features, methods of data collection, integration with the reverse logistics chain, and user engagement through motivational strategies.

Additionally, this report covers scalability and performance optimization, ensuring the system is equipped to handle the anticipated growth in the number of collection boxes.
